About A Stitch in Time

Fight the spread with a needle and thread

This an online resource set up to provide information and patterns for homemade PPE and link up the many local sewing initiatives and individuals keen to help tackle Covid-19 with those who need protective kit on the frontlines but cannot get hold of the correct equipment.

In the absence of professional equipment, how can homemade PPE be as good as possible? What are the specifications? What are the best patterns/instructions? What are the best materials and who are the best suppliers? And how do we collectively work together to get supply and demand right and ensure delivery of the kit to where it is needed?

We are also here to help amplify appeals for PPE, for materials, and for local support with logistics and coordination. We aim to provide information to enable anyone who need equipment to connect with those who can make homemade kit and with people who can help with safe coordination and supply.

Hopefully the issues that have led to PPE shortages will soon be resolved. Until then we will endeavour to provide the best and most up-to-date information we can.

We are a network of designers, craftspeople, medics, developers and volunteers determined to do our bit to help those on the front line.

This site is an evolving resource – all input is welcome.
